Xavier Hutchinson Is Hard to Start in Crowded Receiver Room

Houston Texans wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson has found the end zone three times in his last three games and is coming off a season-high five catches for 69 yards and a touchdown in last week's win over the 49ers. However, with Christian Kirk (hamstring) and Nico Collins (concussion) returning from their injuries, the Texans suddenly have a lot of receivers to rotate through. Hutchinson was rotating with rookie Jayden Higgins as the perimeter receiver across from Collins prior to all the injuries, and if he returns to that reduced role, he'll have a hard time putting up a big game against the Broncos, who have allowed the second-fewest fantasy points to wide receivers this season. Hutchinson is the No. 74 WR in RotoBaller's rankings this week, so in most formats, there are better flex plays available.

Can Xavier Hutchinson Keep it Going in Week 9?

Houston Texans wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson led the team in receiving with 69 yards and his third touchdown of the season on a season-high six targets in the Week 8 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. It was a career-best day for the 25-year-old pass-catcher, but will it continue? Hutchinson's career day came with both Nico Collins (concussion) and Christian Kirk (hamstring) out due to injuries. Going into Week 8, the former sixth-round pick had only 13 catches for 123 yards and two touchdowns on 18 targets in six games. Whether Hutchinson continues to see elevated volume in Houston's passing attack will depend entirely on whether Collins and Kirk can return this weekend to face the visiting Denver Broncos. Collins and Kirk both practiced on Wednesday, so they could be on track to return. Despite Hutchinson's career day last weekend, he's still only rostered in 1% of Yahoo fantasy leagues.

Xavier Hutchinson Worth a Look on the Waiver Wire After Week 8 Performance

Houston Texans wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson caught five of his six targets for a team-high 69 yards and a touchdown in the 26-15 win over the visiting San Francisco 49ers in Week 8 on Sunday, with both Nico Collins (concussion) and Christian Kirk (hamstring) sidelined by injuries. Hutchinson was tied for second on the team in targets and also tied for the team lead with his five receptions in a Houston offense that has suddenly become pass-happy in recent weeks. The 25-year-old's touchdown catch was a 30-yard connection with quarterback C.J. Stroud. Although Hutchinson is worth a look as a short-term WR replacement after his strong Week 8 performance, his role is likely to shrink again once one of Collins or Kirk returns, and the Texans have a shy-away matchup next week at home against the Denver Broncos. If you're going to pluck Hutchinson off the waiver wire this week, we wouldn't recommend spending much on him.

Xavier Hutchinson Capitalizes on Absence of Teammates in Week 8

Houston Texans wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson caught five of his six targets for 69 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's Week 8 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Hutchinson took advantage of a rare opportunity to climb the depth chart with both Nico Collins (concussion) and Christian Kirk (hamstring) ruled out. The 25-year-old ultimately led the team in receiving yards and tied for the team lead in receptions. If Collins and Kirk are unable to return for Week 9 against Denver, Hutchinson could have low-end WR3/flex appeal once again, but he'd still have to continue competing with Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel for volume.

Xavier Hutchinson Stepping Into Sizable Role Against Niners

Houston Texans wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson is expected to handle a significant workload against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8 after Nico Collins (concussion) and Christian Kirk (hamstring) were both ruled out. Hutchinson played a season-high 78 percent of the snaps last weekend, so we know he's capable of getting on the field at a high rate. He only caught one pass in that game, but in Week 5 against Baltimore, he had three catches for 18 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The 25-year-old may still lose some opportunities to Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel, but if there's ever an opportunity for Hutchinson to break out, it's this Sunday with Collins and Kirk sidelined. Hutchinson has low-end WR3/flex appeal in deeper leagues.

Xavier Hutchinson Could Be a Great Value in Week 8

Houston Texans wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson has huge potential in Week 8 since the Texans won't have Nico Collins (concussion) or Christian Kirk (hamstring) this week against the 49ers. Hutchinson has been the team's No. 2 receiver for most of the season and played a season-high 78% of snaps last week against the Seahawks. He only managed one catch on four targets, though, finishing with 13 receiving yards. The third-year receiver from Iowa State snagged a pair of touchdowns in Week 5 just before the bye week, and he had multiple catches in every game this season until Monday's down game. While he hasn't shown a lot of big-play ability, he does have a solid rapport with C.J. Stroud and should be a top option near the goal line. He has a high ceiling in his expanded role, but he's unproven and in a tough matchup, so he's only the WR58 in RotoBaller's Week 8 rankings.

Xavier Hutchinson Looks to Build on Two-Touchdown Performance

Houston Texans wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson hadn't scored a touchdown in his first two seasons, but he found the end zone twice in Week 5's win over the Ravens. The Iowa State alum will look to build on that career day when he returns from his bye week to face the Seahawks on Monday night. Hutchinson still only had three targets in the game, but he hauled in all three for 18 yards and his first two NFL touchdowns. He has been playing the second-most snaps at receiver all season, behind only Nico Collins, but he hasn't drawn many targets. In five games, he has only 12 catches on 14 targets for 110 yards. He could get more work this week with Christian Kirk ruled out, but he is still a longshot flex play in most formats.

Xavier Hutchinson Still Playing Ahead of Rookies in Houston

Houston Texans wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson continues to be the most involved receiver on the outside across the field from Nico Collins, with Christian Kirk playing in the slot. He hasn't had much production in the Texans' ineffective passing game, but he's getting enough work to be worth monitoring coming into this week's matchup with the Ravens, who have allowed the third-most fantasy points to wide receivers this season. Hutchinson played 68% of the team's snaps in Week 4, ahead of both rookie Jayden Higgins (44%) and rookie Jaylin Noel (24%). Hutchinson also had three targets, converting two into catches for 17 yards, while Higgins and Noel only had one target each. Higgins made the most of his catch with a touchdown, but it still looks like Hutchinson is ahead of him on the depth chart. Even with his bigger role and good matchup, Hutchinson is only the WR74 in the RotoBaller rankings, so he is best left on the bench or waiver wires until something changes.

Xavier Hutchinson Still Playing Ahead of Texans Rookies

Houston Texans wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson is still getting plenty of playing time, but his team's offensive struggles have kept him from emerging as a viable deep sleeper. In his third year from Iowa State, he is playing more snaps than fellow former Cyclones Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel, but he hasn't made much of an impact. He played 62% of snaps in Week 3 against the Jaguars and had three catches on three targets for 16 yards. He has multiple catches in each game this season, but he has only a total of seven catches for 75 yards on the year. Hutchinson has the potential to be a deep-league bye-week filler if he stays so involved and the Texans' passing game can get going. So far, they've struggled under C.J. Stroud and offensive coordinator Nick Caley, but they're in a good bounce-back spot this week against the Titans. Even in that favorable matchup, though, Hutchinson is only the WR92 in RotoBaller's rankings.

Xavier Hutchinson Is an Intriguing Deep Sleeper

Houston Texans wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson is once again lined up for an expanded role in Week 2, since Christian Kirk (hamstring) will miss a second straight game when the Texans host the Buccaneers on Monday Night Football. Among the team's wide receivers, Hutchinson ranked second in snaps played and in receiving yards in Week 1, totaling 30 yards on two catches while playing 68% of snaps. He also got a rushing opportunity and added five rushing yards. The Texans' offense couldn't get rolling in Week 1 against the Rams, but they'll work for better results this week against the Bucs. Hutchinson is invovled enough that he could have upside if C.J. Stroud can turn things around going forward. He's a long-shot play to avoid this week, though, since he's ranked as the WR90 in the RotoBaller rankings.

Xavier Hutchinson Records Two Catches in Season Opener

Houston Texans wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson recorded two catches on two targets for 30 yards in his team's 14-9 Week 1 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Notably, Hutchinson played the second-most snaps of any Texans wide receiver, behind only Nico Collins. If veteran wideout Christian Kirk (hamstring) remains sidelined for Houston's Week 2 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Hutchinson could be a decent waiver-wire pickup for fantasy managers this week. Still, it's worth noting that despite playing more snaps, Hutchinson was out-targeted in Week 1 by rookie wide receiver Jayden Higgins as well as both Texans tight ends, Dalton Schultz and Cade Stover.

Xavier Hutchinson Expected to Get Starter Snaps in Week 1

Houston Texans wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson is expected to get starter's snaps in the Week 1 regular-season opener on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The former sixth-rounder has impressed under the radar for the Texans going into the 2025 regular season and has an opportunity to make some noise with Christian Kirk (hamstring) ruled out for the season opener. The 25-year-old is certainly a player to watch as a fantasy sleeper early in the year, especially if Kirk misses more than one game, but it's hard to recommend him as a flex play in Week 1 in 12-team leagues with rookies Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins also having bigger roles behind Nico Collins with Kirk out this weekend. Hutchinson caught 12 of 26 targets for 117 yards in 16 regular-season games (three starts) for Houston in 2024 in his second year in the NFL.

Xavier Hutchinson a Deep Sleeper Week 1

Houston Texans wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson earned more playing time with a big training camp, and he could have a chance to secure a bigger role moving forward since the team will be without Christian Kirk (hamstring) for Week 1. Hutchinson finished last season with four catches for 52 yards in the playoff loss to the Chiefs, but the sixth-round pick from 2023 only has 20 catches for 207 receiving yards and no touchdowns in 32 games over his first two seasons. In camp, Hutchinson was operating as the team's third receiver behind only Kirk and Nico Collins, working ahead of rookies Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins. Without Kirk, he could have a chance to step up in Week 1 if the rookies aren't ready, even though he's in a tough matchup on the road against the Rams. He's the WR86 in RotoBaller's Week 1 rankings, so he's still a deep sleeper but does bring upside worth watching.

Xavier Hutchinson Becoming One of Stroud's Favorite Targets

Houston Texans wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson has looked like the team's No. 3 in camp behind Nico Collins and Christian Kirk, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle observes. Alexander pegs rookie second-round pick Jayden Higgins at No. 4 and rookie third-rounder Jaylin Noel fifth in the pecking order. Hutchinson - who, like Higgins and Noel, went to Iowa State - was a sixth-round selection in 2023. The 25-year-old caught just 20 passes for 207 yards and no touchdowns over 32 games in his first two seasons. Despite that, Alexander reports that Hutchinson worked hard in the offseason to get better and has "quickly become one of C.J. Stroud's go-to targets and looks much improved from a season ago." That doesn't mean it'll translate during the regular season, but for now, it seems possible that Higgins and Noel could take a backseat to Hutchinson to begin the campaign.

Xavier Hutchinson Projected to Make Texans' 53-Man Roster

ESPN's DJ Bien-Aime projects Houston Texans wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson to open the season on the team's 53-man roster. A sixth-round pick in 2023, Hutchinson has recorded 20 catches for 207 yards and zero touchdowns across 32 career games for Houston. He's reportedly been rotating with second-round rookie Jayden Higgins as an outside receiver alongside Nico Collins and Christian Kirk when the Texans line up in three-receiver formations. Hutchinson is unlikely to block Higgins from full playing time for the entire season, but Hutchinson could take snaps and targets away from the highly-touted rookie early in the year.

Jayden Higgins Rotating on the Outside With Xavier Hutchinson

ESPN's DJ Bien-Aime writes that Houston Texans rookie wide receiver Jayden Higgins has been rotating on the outside with Xavier Hutchinson when the team goes to 11 personnel (three receivers). Fellow rookie Jaylin Noel has seen most of his reps from the slot but has also seen some work on the outside. With Christian Kirk currently locked in as the starting slot wideout in Houston, Higgins, the No. 34 overall pick in April, should have a clearer path to playing time in 2025. The two wideouts were teammates at Iowa State, and head coach DeMeco Ryans has described them as inseparable. The 22-year-old Higgins made a highlight-reel 14-yard reception on his only catch of the second preseason game last weekend. In a Texans offense that could throw the ball often, Higgins is absolutely worth a late-round flier in fantasy for receiver depth.

Xavier Hutchinson A Major Risk In Wild Card Round

Houston Texans wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson should not be considered for lineups with the Texans set to play host to the Los Angeles Chargers in a Wild Card meeting on Saturday. The 24-year-old has played more often since Tank Dell (knee) was lost for the season, but still managed just four catches for 34 yards in the past three weeks. With wide receiver Diontae Johnson now in the fold and Robert Woods still around, it's tough to say which, if any, secondary receiver will emerge behind No. 1 option Nico Collins. Additionally, Houston's offense has averaged just 15.6 points in its past five games. Hutchinson wasn't a strong option anyway, but an uncertain target share and an unpredictable passing offense make him avoidable in playoff formats.

Xavier Hutchinson Sneaks Onto Fantasy Radar In Deeper Leagues

Houston Texans wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson warrants some consideration in deeper fantasy leagues as he continues to take on an expanded role. With both Stefon Diggs (knee) and Tank Dell (knee) done for the season, Hutchinson has been tasked with stepping up as the Texans' No. 2 receiver behind Nico Collins. He caught two of four targets against the Baltimore Ravens on Christmas Day, but he certainly wasn't alone as the entire offense stalled repeatedly. He and his Texans teammates have a chance to get back on track in Week 18 against the Tennessee Titans, who have allowed the third-most points to opposing teams in 2024. Tennessee has surrendered the second-fewest receiving yards and fantasy points to wide receivers in 2024, but we still like Hutchinson's ability to build on last week's subpar showing and catch at least a few passes from quarterback C.J. Stroud on Sunday. The second-year receiver out of Iowa State ranks as a low-end WR4 in fantasy football.

Xavier Hutchinson Won't Play In Week 13

Houston Texans wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson (shoulder) is inactive for Week 13 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He had been listed as questionable after logging three limited practices in a row. The 24-year-old has operated in a strictly depth role this season, but he did earn some extra opportunities during the respective absences of Nico Collins and Stefon Diggs (knee). All in all, through 12 games this season, Hutchinson had caught seven of his 18 targets for 70 yards through the air. The second-year receiver is still searching for his first career NFL touchdown. John Metchie III and Robert Woods figure to earn extra snaps with Hutchinson shelved for Week 13.

Dec 1, 2024 11:47 AM EST

Texans’ Xavier Hutchinson A High-Risk Option In Week 7

Houston Texans wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson should continue to see a higher-than-normal volume of snaps, making him a high-risk option in deep leagues for a Week 7 game at Green Bay. Houston's top wide receiver, Nico Collins, will miss at least three more games on injured reserve, thrusting the second-year receiver into more playing time. Hutchinson played 71% and 50% of Houston's snaps the past two weeks, respectively, but he has just two catches for 31 yards on five targets from the increased playing time. Fellow receivers Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell should continue to command significantly more targets, however, making it tough for fantasy managers to trust Hutchinson, even in formats with multiple flex positions.
