The Baltimore Ravens signed wide receiver Rashod Bateman to an undisclosed contract extension on Wednesday that ties him to the team through the 2026 season. Bateman was able to stay healthy in 2023, but he was overshadowed by rookie first-rounder Zay Flowers and finished with a disappointing 32 catches for 367 yards and just one touchdown on 56 targets in 16 regular-season games (12 starts) in his third year in the league. The 24-year-old former 27th overall pick in 2021 out of Minnesota hasn't lived up to his first-round billing and has found the end zone just four times in three years. The Ravens continue to say that Bateman is going to have a bigger role in the passing attack in 2024, but fantasy managers will want to see it before they believe it.

Rookie first-rounder Zay Flowers became quarterback Lamar Jackson's top target once tight end Mark Andrews (ankle) went down with an injury in Week 11. But even before then, the 24-year-old Bateman had taken a back seat to Flowers and was even overshadowed by Odell Beckham Jr. and Nelson Agholor at times. Despite Harbaugh's words, Bateman has an uphill battle to climb for an expanded role as long as Flowers and Andrews stay healthy in 2024.

His best game in terms of targets and receptions was in Week 17 when the offense demolished the Miami Dolphins. He hauled in four of his six targets for 54 yards in that matchup. In Week 18, Zay Flowers (calf) is doubtful and Odell Beckham Jr. is taking the week off. That means Bateman and Nelson Agholor come into the matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers as the top two receivers. They'll have Tyler Huntley throwing the ball instead of Lamar Jackson, but Bateman could receive enough targets to constitute a flex play.

That doesn't automatically make him a starting option in any fantasy format, however. Bateman hasn't scored double-digit fantasy points in any game this season in any format. He has scored one touchdown this season and that was his only catch in that game. His game-high reception mark sits at three and his highest yardage total is just 36. Fantasy managers can find better value elsewhere this week as Bateman goes up against a solid Rams secondary.

Coming off a bye, Bateman should now be good to go for the Week 14 contest versus the Los Angeles Rams. Even with tight end Mark Andrews (ankle) expected to miss the rest of the year, Bateman just hasn't done anything to show that he warrants much fantasy attention. The 24-year-old is clearly behind rookie first-rounder Zay Flowers in the pecking order in 2023, and he might be behind veteran Odell Beckham Jr. as well. Bateman has only one touchdown on the year, 22 receptions and 236 yards in 11 game. He doesn't have more than three receptions or 36 receiving yards in a single contest this season.

Assuming that statement from Harbaugh comes to pass, Bateman should be in no danger of missing a Week 14 clash against the Los Angeles Rams. If for some reason Bateman ends up not playing this weekend, it would provide more chances for Zay Flowers, Odell Beckham Jr., and even Nelson Agholor.

Bateman popped up on the injury report earlier this week with a foot issue but has since been removed from the report and looks to be a full go for the game against the Chargers. While there should be more targets to go around with Mark Andrews (ankle) out, Bateman isn't necessarily a lock to receive more work. He's a desperation flex play at best right now.

The 23-year-old wideout was looking at his surgically repaired foot after he fell down so there was some concern. The team will see how Bateman feels on Thursday but he should be fine overall, according to head coach John Harbaugh. Bateman scored his first touchdown of the season last week but has put together a disappointing season overall. He has just 20 receptions (31 targets) for 215 yards and the lone score. With that said, the Ravens would love to have him out there for Week 12 against the Chargers to help mitigate the loss of dynamic tight end Mark Andrews (leg), who is now out for the year.

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman finally found the end zone during the 34-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 11. The Minnesota product finished with one catch for 10 yards and a touchdown on two targets which isn't exactly fantasy-friendly despite finding the end zone. Now that Mark Andrews (ankle) may be out for the season, there will be some more targets to spread around the offense, but Bateman is third fiddle at the very best. He may see some extra work against the Chargers in Week 12, but that still doesn't make him a starter except for very deep leagues.

Fantasy managers shouldn't be too worried about Bateman sitting out in Week 10. He hasn't been much of a factor in the offense lately. At this point, fantasy managers shouldn't consider Bateman anything more than a WR4, assuming he suits up for this game against the Cleveland Browns.

He was unable to play last week due to the hamstring issue so the Ravens offense will welcome him back and could even have a fully healthy wide receiver corps if Odell Beckham Jr. does play like he says he will. Bateman, despite being healthy, is better left on the bench until he proves to be more than just a few targets per game. The Steelers' defense does give up 46.8 points per game to opposing wide receivers, but this divisional rivalry usually proves to be much tougher.

If he can stay on the field, he has shown that he has the necessary tools to become the number one option on this squad. He's posted a line of 61 catches for 800 yards and three touchdowns so far in his career, and he could find some extra breathing room playing alongside Odell Beckham Jr. and Zay Flowers. For Week 1, Bateman is a risky flex play as this offense is mostly unknown at the moment and we aren't sure who will emerge as Lamar Jackson's favorite target outside of Mark Andrews.
